FullText of Governor Kayode Fayemi Address At Christ's School 75/80 Set AGM At Ibadan
How time flies; just like yesterday, we gathered at our AGM on Saturday, october 5, 2019 for the emergence of this outgoing Executive Committee.
Most sincerely, I thank every member of this Set for the understanding of the need for a very smooth transition which brought this
Executives onboard.
This gave us the impetus to hit the ground running immediately, especially concerning the assignment given to our Set by The General Global Alumni to host the Worldwide Homcoming/Reunion scheduled for october2020 in Ado Ekiti.
Although, this event was rescheduled to october 2021 due the sudden breakout of the COVID ’19 pandemic in the global space; (which we co-hosted with the1976/81 Set) .
You may wish to recall that before the inevitable postponement of the
event, we held a World Press Conference on February 19, 2020 to reel out our plans for the hosting.
This early start made us convert
the postponement to an advantage that eventually led to an outstanding featuring the annals of the Homecoming since it was established in 2006.
Many thanks to The Chairman and members of
the Central Working Committee for their selfless efforts in midwifing such a successful and remarkable outcome.
I am also using this opportunity to thank every member for your sacrificial contributions and support, as this hosting has projected our Set so
high among the General Alumni Association.
However, as we advance in age, we have a lot to thank God for. The list is so long, especially in the last five years; with the recent ones
being the gift of a set of twins to the family of Mr.& Mrs. Efunes his that made the 60-year-old Solape Adebara a grandmother, of
which the naming ceremony is today; and the engagement of Kunle Ogunmodede ’s son with his heartthrob holding in Makurdi, Benue State today.
From the wedding invite, the solemnization will take place next Saturday, october 12, 2024 in Abuja. And on that note, I congratulate all the grandpas and grandmas in the house.
It is my prayer that we shall continue to have reasons to rejoice with one another in Jesus name.
In addition, let me congratulate Amb. Dr. Eniola Ajayi who is having her virtual book launch titled “Mastering Diplomacy: The Essential
Guide to International Relations” today, October 5, 2024. Also, just yesterday, the Ekiti State Governor appointed three of our classmates, viz:Regent Omotunde Adelabu as a member of the State Environmental Protection Agency, Obayemi Adedipe as a member of Public Works Corporation and Bamidele Afolabi as a
member of the Forestry Commission You will agree with me that we have a lot to appreciate God for.
Many of us clocked and pass the Diamond age of 60 , with the last set coming up in 2025. Many retired meritoriously. And Very importantly, no member of our set died in the last 5 years. Instead, we are all waxing stronger and stronger. However, let us all take advantage of the Group Life Insurance Instituted by our Set recently to take care of our wellness.
As you all know, one of the most expensive things in Nigeria of today is Health Care. Let us do all we can, on our own part to ensure that we keep our selves alive.
I cannot conclude this address without thanking the great Ibadan Branch for hosting this AGM.
This branch is noted for hosting landmark events, as Ibadan hosted one of our AGMs in 2016 where we also held an election.
Thanks the Chairman and Executives of this Branch, and indeed the entire members of Ibadan Branch, and especially the LOC for this AGM.
I have been told that there will be a get together this evening courtesy of Ibadan Branch where we will all enjoy ourselves as of old. I Thank You for your efforts.
Finally, I am appealing to all of us to make the change of baton of today as easy and seamless as it was when this outgoing Exco was emerging. Let us also join hands with those that will emerge today for a successful tenure.
In conclusion, I thank everyone who is attending this AGM, either physically or virtually for the time out, as I wish those returning
today or whenever, a safe journey back to your various destinations.
Once again, I thank you for your attention and God bless you all.
Kayode Fayemi
