Divorce: Nigerians Call for Checkmate- Hon. Falana

The spare and rate at which divorce cases rampant in the recent times across the country have been a great concern to Nigerians that call for checkmate in the society.


Speaking in Akure, Ondo state capital, the Special Adviser to the governor on gender matters and governance, Hon. Olamide Falana said divorce cases were on the rise presently in the,and that  this  can be traced to multi-facet factors in this regard.

According to the governor aide, who is also a counselor expert posits that the reason for going  into marriage will not be fulfilled with cases of divorce been experiencing daily with series of break-up in the society.

Hon. Falana noted that families play important roles at making sure for sustainance of homes that ought to break-up  easily without due consideration of the effects.

While enumerating factors that can lead to sudden break-up as violence to subdue women with anger, poor state of economy, infidelity, sexual cases with wild acts, lack of communication and family interferences which she regarded as one of the major factors.

The governor aide noted that social media is another great problem that many homes and couples have difficulty at coping with and which has caused a lot of divorce cases amongst couples in the recent times.

While condemning the recent trend of languages being used by present generation of youths like"Je breakfast" meaning, breaking fast in marriage or relationship quickly with due consideration.

Falana however advised proper understanding and courtship between couples to-be, less of families interferences in relationship, be less dependant on social media matters that can affect their homes or relationship, while good communication amongst couples  is suggest to be effective at preventing divorce.

She informed that through her office, a lot of cases have been handled in the state that have prevented breaking of many homes, moreso that voices of both genders male and female can be heard and their dignity and status respected and give full recognition in governance and scheme of things.

Adding that the society can be a better place for all, only if there is peace in individual homes, which will definitely translate to good relationship in the society and governance in retrospective.
