Custom Officials Defraud Nigerians at Oyo state

Nigeria border towns in Oyo state have now turned to a cartel of fraud arena as custom officials at various posts in the areas engaged in sharp practices.

A recent petition from a group, Centre For Ethical Promotion And Media Reformation, signed by both the Chairman and Secretary of the organisation respectively posit that some custom officials at the various posts in Igbeti,Saki areas have been engaging in sharp practices that is detrimental to the good health of nation's economy.

According to information, these custom officials have been defrauding and perpetrating their fraud and attrocities, encouraging smugglers by collecting "illegal fees" from the smugglers without official receipts bringing in some items like foreign rice, vehicles and other ban items.

Some listed custom officials are Musa Tolani - OC base Igbeti, Adegoke -OC base Igbeti, Hammed - OC base Igbeti, Staff Salmon Ahmed and Guloma . While one Alaba Abiodun Victor,a non-staff of custom service was engaged to use his pay on sale(POS) through his two (2) personal account to collect funds for this officials illegally.

While the two banks that the POS collector is using to collect the illicit revenue are WEMA and First banks and account number (withheld) for now.

Investigation revealed that these custom officials collect nothing less than sixty-seven thousand naira on vehicle carrying foreign rice of fifty (50) bags ,and that over four hundred (400) vehicles carrying such items through the area especially at night.

The source informed that as soon these smugglers paid the sum of #67,ooo or thereabout to Musa Tolani OC base and his group, a pass is automatically issued by the smugglers which serve as shield from other security agencies they might encounter along the way.

While these sabotage activities of the custom officials last, it was learnt that Musa Tolani,OC base at Igbeti ran into trouble water recently, when rebate he is taking back to Oyo/Osun command dwindling downward.

While the group calling on the Comptroller General of Custom (CGC) to checkmate all the anomalies been perpetrated by the officials, moreso for the command to borrow a leaf from sister command Ilorin, partnering anti graft agencies like Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at curbing crimes and fraud in the service.
