SPEECH BY HIS ROYAL MAJESTY ADEOLA ADENIYI AJAKAIYE, OYINYOSAIYE UYIN III ON THE OCCASION OF HIS FORMAL INSTALLATION AS THE OLUYIN OF IYIN

BY THE STATE GOVERNMENT AT THE STATE HOUSE, ADO-EKITI, ON FRIDAY,
SEPTEMBER 18TH 2020

PROTOCOL

On this great day, I want to start by thanking and acknowledging God
Almighty, the King of Kings, the ultimate Kabiyesi, for this moment.
Only HE could have done it. After all, it is said that unless God
builds a House, those who build it labour in vain. Therefore, I enjoin
everyone here to please join me in giving glory to God.

2.   I thank the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Dr.
Kayode Fayemi, the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Otunba Adebisi
Egbeyemi, the entire Cabinet, and indeed the Government and people of
Ekiti State. I also thank the Chairman of the Ifelodun/Irepodun Local
Government and his entire executive.

3.   My gratitude also goes to all the Iyin Kingmakers, who ensured a
very smooth selection process. I pay tribute
to our fathers who sat on this throne before me, especially the
immediate past Oluyin, Oba Ademola Ajakaiye, the Oyinyosaiye Uyin II

4.   I thank all the traditional rulers in our great State, especially
those in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Traditional Council.

5.   I want to most sincerely congratulate all my brothers who
contested the Oluyin throne with me. Yes, I have emerged as the new
Oluyin, but my victory belongs to you and indeed the entire people of
Iyin. This is our victory and we are all winners. Today's joy is ours
to share. I seek your support for the great task ahead.

6.   I want to most sincerely thank and congratulate the good people
of Iyin Ekiti for making it possible for us to live up to the name of
our town, by singing the song of praise. (Song rendition.....Tuyin
tuyin, tuyin tuyin, tuyin tuyin ni mo wa s'odo re, Olorun Oba.
Repeat). The peaceful process of selecting the new Oluyin is a source
of joy and pride to all. May that joy never cease from our great town
and from all our homes..

7.   To all my friends and indeed all those who worked hard to see me
through, I can't thank you enough. If I start mentioning names, we
won't leave here today. And finally, to my darling wife, Olori
Oluwatoyin Ajakaiye, and the entire Ajakaiye Dynasty. I thank you for
your immeasurable love and support. I am indeed very proud of you all.

8.   Iyin is a great town with a great history, thanks to the labour
of our forebears. We pay tribute to their foresight and
sacrifice. But perhaps the biggest tribute we can pay to these
ancestors is to carry on from where they stopped by lifting Iyin to
greater heights. This task is now ours to do!

9.   I pray that in my time, Iyin will progress more and prosper more,
with the help of all of us. Since there can be no development without
peace, my priority and watchword will be 'Peace and Unity'. We will
harness the energy and ingenuity of all our people - men, women, boys
and girls; leverage on technology and intelligence gathering and, of
course, work with the state and our local government to keep Iyin
safe, secure and peaceful, because that is the prerequisite for growth
and development. We will also use the instrumentality of the
traditional institution to resolve conflicts amicably.

10.  We shall revive and raise the profile of our traditional
festivals in order to make Iyin a preferred tourist destination. Apart
from our festivals, we also have some tourist attractions. One of them
is the ancient Esa Cave, which we hope to develop in conjunction with
the State Government in order to attract tourists.

11.  We will establish a Digital Resource Centre that will become the
repository of Iyin history and the hub of  research, while a database
of all Iyin sons and daughters, who are unemployed, will be created as
a way of linking them with available opportunities, ensuring human
capital development and also providing the basis for empowerment.
Since we need to harness all our human resources and ensure that all
hands are on deck to develop Iyin into a modern city, we will also
create a database of all Iyin sons and daughters, both at home and in
the Diaspora. We will not leave anyone behind in this quest to make
Iyin great.

12.   The Olori, in consultation with the Oluyin, shall encourage the
registration of all women groups, with special emphasis on widows and
other vulnerable women, so they can access all available support in a
very orderly and
transparent manner.

13.  Iyin Ekiti is one of the best planned towns in this country.
However, the town is long overdue for urban renewal. Roads need to be
rehabilitated, the streets need to be lit at night, the markets need
to be upgraded and made attractive, not just to indigenes but to
others.

14.  We also intend to pioneer the development of modern real estates
in iyin Ekiti, so that the town could benefit from its nearness to the
capital city of Ado Ekiti, especially once the new dual carriageway
linking both towns is completed. We will also encourage the
establishment of cottage and small scale industries and service
businesses, including bakeries, dry cleaning services and functional
hospitals, while encouraging the use of clean/green energy.

15.   As an agrarian community, Iyin is not lacking in the cultivation
of food and cash crops, even in commercial quantities. What the town
lacks, however, are storage and processing facilities. We will
therefore encourage our sons and daughters, who are doing well in
their various fields of endeavour, and indeed all willing investors,
to invest in these and other areas.

16.  We will restore the waning moral values of our youths and
dissuade them from engaging in illegal and criminal activities. The
moral fabric of our communities must be strengthened with the
organization of annual events that reward good behaviours, while
people will be free to practice their religions, which is a great
source of morality. Our concept of 'Omoluabi' must not be jettisoned.
After all, as the saying goes, it is not what you do for your
children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that
will make them successful human beings.

17.  Since we don't want to wait forever for the desired change to
come to Iyin, we will be identifying quick wins that will signal the
dawn of a new day for Iyin. That is why today, after this ceremony, I
will be commissioning two boreholes that were donated by an
illustrious daughter of the town, Chief Mrs. Joke Chukwuma. I am using
this opportunity to
call on all the sons and daughters of Iyin, both at home and abroad,
to emulate Chief Mrs Chukwuma by joining hands with us to make our
town great. Our forebears have done a great job. Let's continue from
where they stopped.

18.  Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen. I was born
in the great town of Iyin, where I also grew up and where I had my
early education. I walked the streets. I know all the landmarks of the
great, historic town. I am a proud son of Iyin, and today I stand here
to proclaim to the world that I am a proud Oluyin of Iyin!

19.  Congratulations to all of us, as we begin another journey to
greatness. God bless Iyin Ekiti, God bless Ekiti State and may God
Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

20.   I thank you all for your kind attention.
